  “The Black American experience in the Northeast United States is a 

complex and multifaceted narrative, deeply intertwined with the 

region’s history and culture.

From the early days of colonial slavery to the great migration, 

and beyond, African Americans in the Northeast have 

played a vital role in shaping the region’s social,

political and cultural landscape.

Cities like Boston, New York, and Philadelphia were important

hubs for the abolitionist movement and they became centers 

for black intellectual and cultural expression during the Harlem

 renaissance in the early 20th century"
